International Road Transport Operations in Macedonia
Operational Activities
Cabotage
UK operators may carry loads to, from or through the country. Loads can also be carried between Macedonia and a third country and vice versa
provided that the vehicle carries a ECMT permit or the relevant transit authorisation. Cabotage is not permitted.
Dangerous Goods
Macedonia is party to ADR. It is essential that fully completed ADR documentation is prepared for the movement of dangerous goods.
Abnormal Loads
Authorisations are required for all Indivisible loads exceeding the maximum vehicle dimensions outlined below. For further information

Taxation
A full tank of fuel can be imported duty free.
Customs
TIR Carnets are accepted for vehicles crossing Hungary. ATA Carnets are accepted for certain temporary imports. CMR notes are accepted.
Movement Restrictions
There are driving restrictions for goods vehicles at weekends or public holidays.
Road Tolls
There are 4 categories of foreign registered vehicles that are affected whilst using the Macedonian road infrastructure as follows:
- Category I - Motor vehicles with a maximum height of 1.7 metres and maximum length of 5.5 metres (including passenger vehicles)
- Category II - Motor vehicles with a maximum height of 3.3 metres and maximum length of 9.5 metres (including passenger vehicles with trailers, jeeps, pickup trucks and half freight vehicles)
- Category III - Motor vehicles with a maximum height of 4.2 metres and maximum length of 10.5 metres (including jeeps with trailers, pickup trucks with trailers, half freight vehicles with trailers, freight vehicles with trailers and buses)
- Category IV - Motor vehicles with a maximum height of 4.2 metres and maximum length greater than 10.5 metres (including jeeps with trailers, pickup trucks with trailers, half freight vehicles with trailers, freight vehicles with trailers and buses)
Road sections where tolls are applied include:
- Kumanovo to Miladinovci
- Miladinovci to Kumanovo
- Skopje to Petrovec
- Petrovec to Veles
- Veles to Gradsko
- Skopje to Miladinovci
- Tetovo to Gostivar
- Gostivar to Tetovo
- Skopje to Tetovo (Gl)
- Tetovo to Skopje (Ze)
For International Goods Vehicles and International Buses and Coaches (with or without trailers), a toll is levied on all such vehicles and must be paid upon entering the country (at the border).
- Trucks under 15 tonne is USD 0.006/tonne/kilometer
- Trucks over 15 tonne is USD 0.008/tonne/kilometer
- Buses/Coaches with up to (and including) 30 seats 0.06 USD/vehicle/km
- Buses/Coaches with more than 30 seats 0.10 USD/vehicle/km
The toll has to be paid in cash in a convertible currency, according to the current exchange rates of the central bank of Macedonia.
Bridge and Tunnel Tolls
We are unaware of any Bridge or Tunnel tolls not included within the existing toll system, therefore we recommend contacting the online

Documentation
Green Card required, plus original vehicle registration docs. A GB plate must be fitted to rear of vehicle/trailer.

Safety Equipment
It is compulsory to carry the following items of equipment and/or observe specific rules:-
- First Aid Kit (advised)
- Warning Triangle
- Spare Bulbs (advised)
- Dipped Headlights are compulsory at all times
- Seat Belts must be worn
Snow chains must be carried between 15 October and 15 March.
Driver Requirements
Legal Documents
Full passport required but no visa required. International driving licence in addition and/or normal UK Licence.
Letter from employer giving driver permission to drive vehicle - Attestation letter and form. AETR Hours rules apply.
