Operational Activities

Cabotage
UK operators may carry loads to, from or through the country. Loads carried between third countries can only do so under a bi-lateral agreement. Cabotage is permitted.

Dangerous Goods
Slovenia is party to ADR. Authorisations for ADR movements must be obtained from the Slovenian authorities prior to arrival at any border entry point. Vehicles must be fully certificated for ADR carraige less than 6 months previously and carry relevant insurance certification. It is essential that fully completed ADR documentation is prepared for the movement of dangerous goods.

Abnormal Loads
Authorisations must be obtained for all vehicles/loads exceeding the weights/dimensions outlined below. A representative company should be contacted in advance who will process all documentation upon your behalf and act as a guarantee.

Taxation
A full tank of fuel can be imported duty fre, provided that the vehicle enters the country via an internal border crossing point.

Customs
TIR Carnets are accepted for vehicles crossing Slovenia. ATA Carnets are accepted for certain temporary imports. CMR notes are required.

Slovenia Information & Online Purchase Road Tolls
There are 3 types of Tolling systems currently in place in Slovenia, these are:

Payment methods can be via cash, credit card, DARS electronic swipe card or an ABC electronic tag (On board Unit - OBU). Operators choosing the ABC Tag can choose either Pre-Pay or Post-Pay methods. Bridge and Tunnel Tolls
There is a seperate toll applicable to the Karavanke Tunnel. Visiting the Dars website will indicate the cost (Euro) against the weight and number of axles relevant to vehicles using it.

Documentation
Green Card required, plus original vehicle registration docs. A GB plate must be fitted to rear of vehicle/trailer.

There are also various maximum permitted weights on vehicles, trailers and road trains which are applicable according to the number of axles.

Safety Equipment
It is compulsory to carry the following items of equipment and/or observe specific rules:-

In Slovenia, winter equipment is compulsory from 15 November to 15 March. During this period, when weather conditions so require, all vehicles should have chains fitted to the drive axles. The minimum requirements for solo vehicles and combination vehicles of over 3.5 tonnes is as follows : winter tyres on the drive axle(s) or summer tyres together with snow chains on the drive axle(s). Vehicles with permanent four wheel drive should have snow chains on the rear axle. All vehicles should carry a shovel on board.

Legal Documents
Full passport required. International driving licence or normal UK Licence. Letter from employer giving driver permission to drive vehicle - Attestation letter and form. EU Hours rules apply.
